BOSSI Examination Outcomes October 2023Results from the Board Examinations for Land Surveying are provided below. The event will celebrate all 2023 Certificate of Competency recipients, annual examination award winners and the presentation of Meritorious Certificates.New BOSSI guidelines now available The Land and Mining Committee has finalised two new BOSSI guidelines which are now available on the BOSSI website. BOSSI Guideline - Endorsement of Land Survey Plans by Registered Surveyor This guideline outlines the recommended procedures for Registered Surveyors to endorse all surveys which can be defined as a land survey under the Surveying and Spatial Information Act 2002, these could include but are not limited to; topographical surveys, set out surveys, site plans, and identification surveys. New BOSSI Board Appointments Over recent months there have been changes to the Board. The Board extends its thanks to outgoing Board appointees for their service; Nicholas Tucker, Lloyd Pilgrim, Katie Wallace and Anthony Margetts. These members have made significant contributions to BOSSI activities during their tenure including valued contributions to a number of BOSSI committees. Welcome new BOSSI Board appointments David Byrne is a highly experienced investigation manager with a comprehensive background in policing and correctional services. For more than 20 years he served in the NSW Police Force and was Commander, Corrective Services Investigation Unit before moving to Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) as General Manager, CSNSW Investigations. Jason Thomas is currently the Acting Principal Inspector for Mining Engineering for the NSW Resources Regulator and has over 30 years’ experience in the mining industry. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining – Honours) and a Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency.
Chris McAlister is a Professional Fellow (Surveying) in the School of Surveying and Built Environment at the University of Southern Queensland. She is the lead academic for First Year Student Experience and Student Employability, developing initiatives and programs to ensure innovative learning and teaching practices, and positive student experiences. Peter Sergeant is a Registered Land and Mining Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience working in surveying consultancies and mining companies on land development, transport infrastructure, construction and mining projects, including fulfilling statutory appointments as Mine Surveyor at several underground and open cut coal mines.
