NSW 2007 Awards for Excellence

At the 2007 NSW Awards for Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information, Warwick Watkins, Surveyor General, presented the award for Professional Surveyor of the Year to Michael Whelan, an expert in boundary dispute resolution and a Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court.

The Young Surveyor of the Year was Peter Sergeant and his award was presented by Barry Douse, Department of Lands, Executive Manager (Land and Property Information).

Both of the professional surveyor awards are sponsored by the Department of Lands and the Surveyor General.

A Department of Lands publication, The Electoral Atlas of NSW, was highly commended at the awards and another Lands innovation, an update to the Digital Cadastral Database, was a finalist in the same section of the awards, Spatial Information.

A third department project, the SydNET navigational system, was a finalist in the Infrastructure and Construction section of the awards.

The electoral atlas, published last year, is an “all you need to know” compendium of maps and yarns on the electoral history of NSW.

The atlas was produced by Department of Lands and the Committee for the Sesquicentenary of Responsible Government in New South Wales.
