Spatial Information
The Board of Surveying and Spatial Information of NSW was constituted under the Surveying Act, 2002, to provide for the registration of land and mining surveyors, to regulate the making of surveys and to advise government, through the Minister responsible for the Surveying Act (2002), currently the Minister for Lands, on spatial information.
In January 2006, BOSSI formed the Spatial Information Committee to become more active in the coordination of spatial information and develop a vision and strategies to significantly improve access to, and use of spatial information across the whole NSW community.
What is Spatial Information?
'Spatial information' is information which can be related to specific locations on the Earth. It covers an enormous range, including the distribution of natural resources, the incidence of pollutants, descriptions of infrastructure such as buildings, utility and transport services, patterns of land use and the health, wealth, employment, housing and voting habits of people.
