About BOSSI

The current Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (the Board) of New South Wales is constituted under the Surveying Act, 2002 and has been in operation in one form or another since 1837.

The Board provides for the registration of land and mining surveyors, the regulation of surveys and advises the Minister on spatial information.

In October 2002, NSW Parliament approved the passage of the Surveying Bill, 2002 which repealed the Surveyors Act, 1929 and replaced the Board of Surveyors with the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) with a date of commencement of 25th June 2003.

BOSSI has a broader role than the previous Board. BOSSI will register land and mining surveyors and advise Government on matters relating to any aspect of surveying or the spatial information industry.
